# About Twitch Downloader

## What it does

vodfetch downloads past Twitch broadcasts, highlights, clips and live streams in their original source quality — up to 1080p60 — and saves them as ordinary MP4 files that play anywhere and import cleanly into editors like Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or CapCut. Beyond plain video it can extract audio only, turn a short clip into a GIF, export a VOD's chat replay as a timestamped text file, and pull the game-change chapter markers from a stream. No account, no watermark, no install and no upsell.

## How it works

Everything happens in your browser. When you paste a link, vodfetch reads Twitch's public playback data, fetches the video's small HLS segments (or a clip's MP4) through a lean proxy — which browsers require, because they won't let a web page fetch Twitch's CDN directly — and stitches them back into a single file on your device. On Chromium browsers it streams straight to disk, so even a multi-hour VOD doesn't have to fit in memory. The proxy is stateless: it relays bytes and keeps nothing.

## Who it's for

vodfetch is built for the people who actually need their Twitch footage: streamers backing up their own VODs before Twitch's 7-to-60-day retention window deletes them, editors pulling clips for YouTube and TikTok, and archivists and researchers keeping a record of moments that would otherwise disappear. It works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, because it runs entirely in the browser — nothing to install and nothing platform-specific to maintain.

## Open source and how it's funded

The whole tool is open source under the MIT license, so you don't have to take our word for how it behaves — you can read the code. It's built and maintained by one person as a side project, funded by a couple of small, non-intrusive ads rather than a subscription, a 'Pro' tier or selling data. That deliberately simple model is why there's no reason to trick anyone: the honest version is the whole product.

## Privacy & responsible use

There's no account and no tracking, and we don't store your downloads — video is only relayed through a stateless proxy that keeps nothing, purely to work around browser limits. Please use vodfetch only for content you own or have the right to save, for personal use, and always respect Twitch's Terms of Service and the original creator's copyright.
